Introduction
mBackup is a backup and restore utility for mSeven Software's mSecure iPhone app. It allows you to make multiple backups of your mSecure data over a WiFi connection to your desktop. You can then restore your mSecure data without having to go through the iTunes restore process.
mBackup also allows you to import and export your mSecure data from/to various text file formats. See the mBackup User Guide for instructions on how to use the import feature for various file types.
Installation
mBackup is a standard Windows application. To install mBackup:
1. Download the mBackup.zip file from www.msevensoftware.com/downloads/windows/mbackup.zip.
2. Uncompress the zip file to your local system.
3. Run the Setup.exe file by double-clicking it.
4. Follow the instructions in the installer.
5. If you have a Firewall enabled, you're going to need to allow mBackup access to receive an incoming connection. See the Network Troubleshooting guide for more complete instructions on the use of mSecure for Windows with a Firewall. The guide can be found here: http://msevensoftware.com/network_troubleshooting_guide.
6. You may delete the zip file and the installer files once the app is installed.
To uninstall mBackup, go to Add/Remove Programs in your Windows Control Panel and click the mBackup item. Then press the Remove button.
Quick Start
How to use mBackup:
1. Run mBackup by going to the Start->All Programs. mBackup should be listed in this menu. Click to run. Be sure to set a password for mBackup. This password will be required in order launch mBackup on your computer. The password will need to also match the password used with mSecure on the iPhone. If the passwords don't match, mSecure will not be able to perform a backup to mBackup or able to restore from mBackup. Any files imported into mBackup that aren't already encrypted will be encrypted with this password.
2. To make a backup: In mSecure on the iPhone, go into Preferences (little "i" at the bottom right of the main view) and tap on "Backup Data". mSecure will present a list of any mBackup servers running on your local WiFi network. (Note: the iPhone and your Windows computer must be on the same WiFi network in order to use mBackup.) Tap on the server you wish to backup to. mBackup will send the mSecure data (in it's encrypted form if a password is set) and mBackup will display the backup in it's main view. You have just made a backup of your mSecure data. You can make additional backups without deleting previous backups.
3. To do a restore: In mSecure on the iPhone, go into Preferences (little "i" at the bottom right of the main view) and tap on "Restore Data". Tap on the server where the backup is located. mSecure will present a list of all the backups available on the server. Tap on the appropriate backup you wish to restore to. (NOTE: The restore deletes all local data and replaces it with the data from the restore.)
Note: If mSecure for iPhone is unable to find mBackup on your local network, you may have a Firewall that's blocking access. You'll need to add mBackup and Apple's Bonjour as exceptions to your Firewall. See the Network Troubleshooting guide for more complete instructions on the use of mBackup with a Firewall. The guide can be found here: http://msevensoftware.com/network_troubleshooting_guide.
